It's pertinent to discuss this because we live in a time of flamboyant wedding and sorrowful matrimony. Let me share this factual apothegm: "Marriage is not a fairy tale where you live happily ever after; you can only find that in tales from Disneyland". It takes two to tangle in any successful relationship, therefore both parties must be committed, willing to make sacrifices and compromise if need be for the relationship to thrive. The more you put into your relationship, the more you get out of it.<br /><br />Husbands often get it wrong thinking that money is the intrinsic thing that keeps marriage going. So they take all the time digging it hard without creating time for the wife and kids. No doubt money is an essential ingredient, but it can't buy you happiness. You need to strike a balance by investing ample time for your family. Ian Seymour once said: "It's good to be able to afford the things money can buy but only if it doesn't cost us the things money can't buy". The more you put into your relationship, the more you get out of it.<br /><br />Without doubt, communication is one of the most important tools in keeping a marriage working. Women need someone to talk to: share their aspirations, comfort their sorrows and even reassure them of the love commitment made some years ago. At times, a listening ear is all they crave for, not even money or physical attraction. There's need for both parties to sit and discuss heart-to-heart, analyze situations, plan for the future and right the wrongs. Don't be proud to say 'I'm sorry but be proud to say 'I love you'. The more you put into your relationship, the more you get out of it.<br />
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqqgH9JuxI7IzTu85KxSxp16Vwt_Nu5xseTe87CYMVCkl7JclYDdJ160o-k1TYKfbBFr_HUiZ1467BghuMm94vmUHuEaImylRYD2DnZXG_zl-XMiRbrinE682B40qc5LYLzFQLao5Ow0kc/s1600/marital-status-of-affiliate-marketers-500x425.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="544" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqqgH9JuxI7IzTu85KxSxp16Vwt_Nu5xseTe87CYMVCkl7JclYDdJ160o-k1TYKfbBFr_HUiZ1467BghuMm94vmUHuEaImylRYD2DnZXG_zl-XMiRbrinE682B40qc5LYLzFQLao5Ow0kc/s640/marital-status-of-affiliate-marketers-500x425.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />There's this saying that: "the grass is always green on the other side". But in the real sense, the grass is greener wherever it's been cared for. This calls for caution that marriage shouldn't be an affair for comparison, others also have their downsides and uptimes. Caring for each other is one of those things that keeps the love flame glowing. Show affection to one another and throw yourselves surprises with big treats. Wives often love to be wowed especially with unsolicited gifts. The more you put into your relationship, the more you get out of it.<br /><br />One of the ways to a man's heart is through his gut, so get him sumptuous dishes and appetizers to keep him longing. There's really nothing wrong for husbands to help their wives with house cores. In-fact, women love it so much when you serve them breakfast in bed. Remember marriage is a 'master-slave' relationship. Either parties could be the master at times and slave at other times. Apply this principle quite often and you'd see the beauty in it. The more you put into your relationship, the more you get out of it.<br /><br />It's amazing to know how skillful and hardworking women are, they're the super-heros of our homes. Mothers, housekeepers, baby sitters, cooks, teachers, lovers and even professionals - they're women of honour so they deserve to be pampered and never abused. Get to think of all the good works they do to keep things going and they never get tired. Husbands need to appreciate these efforts, give a helping hand and protect their rights without they asking for it. Remember, the more you put into your relationship, the more you get out of it.<br /><br />Wives should know that husbands have their ego and self esteem - that's natural. They love to be respected and admired, on the other hand they also have to be responsible, up and doing. Hence, a woman should appreciate every effort a man puts in place to make ends meet. Only with time will the good become better and better turns best. The more you put into your relationship, the more you get out of it.<br /><br />Patience is the lubricant that keeps marriage rolling. Seek to understand before been understood, give each other excuses and not hasty conclusions. The parable of a woman is like that of an egg: if you squeeze it so tight it gets broken and if you let it loose the same happens. Hence, be not hard upon your wife for she may not withstand it and being too loose may expose her to laxity - so chart the middle course in dealing with her. Be quiet and calm when arguments arises, for arguing with a woman is like being arrested: everything you say can be used against you. Above all, do not loose your head even if she's loosing hers. The more you put into your relationship, the more you get out of it. <br /><br />Always remembered to put prayers in your marriage as that's one secret that keeps it going. Having said this all, I trust that you will put your partner in the right perspective and enjoy the love sojourn of a happy matrimony together. And remember: the more you put into your relationship, the more you get out of it. May God bless your marriage and life in entirety.<br /><br />Yours cordially,<br /><br />DhunNurayn ElShabazz<b></b><i></i><u></u><strike></strike>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15264303163435422750noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5441343093001045614.post-71396776555360900632015-11-15T19:03:00.002-08:002015-11-15T19:06:13.974-08:00GLOBAL TERRORISM: BETWEEN THE GOOD PEOPLE AND THE BAD PEOPLE<div style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">
While the world stands in solidarity with Paris against the inhumane act of some psychopaths against humanity, many Muslims showed sympathy and condemned the barbaric act of this minority few who claim to profess Islam. You need not be partisan to support a noble cause; this is life of humans and the onslaught is a global occurrence. We hear of killings in Palestine, Nigeria, Syria to the extent that its no longer news. The annoying thing is how people come on social media to play the blame game. Well, this is a platform where the dumb could speak and the deaf can hear; little wonders.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">

Countering Violent Extremism is our collective responsibility and every human being with a conscious mind knows that terrorism has no religion - we're all affected by this. The war against terror is a war between the good people and the bad people. The good people are more than the bad people but we are allowing the bad people win the war. When we stand tall to cast asperges blame on your neighbours who live in peace with us all because they're Muslims, then we're helping the bad guys achieve their objective of creating fear, hatred and terror in our hearts. Such individuals are not far from being same with the bad guys, only that they've not blown up themselves and if they have an opportunity too they may do. That's one of the goals of the bad guys.</div>

The bad guys are everywhere, in every country, clan and religion. Joseph Kony of the LRA is also there claiming to be inspired by the Lord and I wonder what Bible he read. The truth is: the bad guys are often an integral minority that cannot defeat us unless we let them do. Boko Haram for instance uses narcotics, intoxicants and even rape women as confirmed by the Nigerian Military when they invaded their camps. Are these the ones whom we asceibe Islam with? They are far away from the prestine Islam. The mere fact that one says Allahu Akbar before carrying out a violent attack sends an immediate signal no doubt, but anyone can say that word even in atheism.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">

Alas! It's share hypocrisy to pitch sides or stand by the western world when such occurrences arise. We also need to support those in the middle east and other affected nations - we are mankind afterall. Research has shown that violent extremist often site instances that the west and her allies are killing their brothers and invading their lands. But in the real sense, the people they claim to liberte are those that suffer the most. Boko Haram have killed more Muslims than non-Muslims, so it'll be wrong to say: "they're killing their brothers, it doesn't concern us".</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19.32px; margin-bottom: 6px; margin-top: 6px;">

It is incumbent upon us to stand together through thick and thin to fight the monster called terrorism. We need not take arms, our responsibility as global citizens will be to educate one another towards dialogue, tolerance, resilience and counter narratives. On the part of the government, there should be enhanced measures to protect the lives and properties of her citizens. Intelligence agencies should also work hard to identify and truncate the source of funding these terrorist. This will also go a long way to nip the bud.</div>

The MIEExpert15 TweetMeet is a monthly series of live Q&A session that takes place on Twitter in real-time. It is an interactive chat in which MIEExpert15 and other Educators around the world engage the guest with questions on an area of expertise for collaborative learning. The objective is to share experience with teachers on how they explore technology in education.<br />

At first, you'd need to have a Twitter account to participate. Then familiarizing oneself with the Tweetsphere will help a long way. Character limits, hashtag, mention, timeline and re-tweet are some actions you should know how to maneuver before joining the conversation; otherwise you may find it difficult to comprehend what is going on. The hashtag we use is <a href="http://twitter.com/search?q=%23MIEE15Cx&src=typd" target="_blank">#MIEE15Cx</a> and it will be sustained through subsequent sessions.</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">

<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<span style="color: #222222;">It is advisable to access twitter on the Web using a PC or preferably third party apps like "tweet deck" makes it easier to categorize tweets gathered from</span><a href="http://twitter.com/search?q=%23MIEE15Cx&src=typd" style="color: #222222;" target="_blank"> </a><a href="http://twitter.com/search?q=%23MIEE15Cx&src=typd" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">#MIEE15Cx</span></a><span style="color: #222222;"> in a separate Column. While on mobile, "tweet caster" works perfectly well. You can also use Web Apps like </span><a href="http://www.tagboards.com/" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">tagboards</span></a><span style="color: #222222;"> or </span><a href="http://www.storify.com/" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">storify</span></a><span style="color: #222222;"> to gather tweets. The host will anchor the session with a volunteer co-host. The guest will be introduced, mentioning the handle prior to commencement via tweets for announcement and publicity. The session will last for an hour with 35 minutes for crowd sourced questions, 20 minutes for live questions and 5 minutes to sign off.</span></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<span style="color: #222222;">We kindly seek the indulgence of participants not to tweet at the guest handle in the first thirty five minutes of the session. This is just to avert distraction and save time. The co-host will announce (in session) once it's time to Start tweeting for direct questions. While the guest is responding to crowd sourced questions, participants can moderate responses by contributing their views with a mention of the hashtag </span><a href="http://twitter.com/search?q=%23MIEE15Cx&src=typd" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">#MIEE15Cx</span></a><span style="color: #222222;"> in their tweet. This is one aspect that really gets the conversation interesting with a lot of collaborative learning experience. Once its time to answer direct questions, the guest re-tweet the question to be answered then responds with the </span><a href="http://twitter.com/search?q=%23MIEE15Cx&src=typd" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">#MIEE15Cx</span></a><span style="color: #222222;"> hashtag.</span></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<br /></div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<span style="color: #222222;">Remember to check out the time, </span><a href="http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=MIEE15Cx+TweetMeet+-+Session+II&iso=20150122T17&p1=%3A&ah=1" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">convert to your timezone</span></a><span style="color: #222222;"> and build a schedule around it. The TweetMeet is time bound so we expect you to tune in at the right time in order not to miss out. It is encouraged that you tweet about the session and re-tweet suitable Conversations. You can directly engage other participants in the discussion as well. None MIE Educators are equally invited to participate. You can follow questions by searching the hashtag </span><a href="http:/#MIEE15Cx" style="color: #222222;" target="_blank">#MIEE15Cx</a><span style="color: #222222;"> and refreshing the page over time while navigating between your time line and mentions as well.</span><br />
<div style="color: #222222;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div dir="ltr" style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
<span style="color: #222222;">It is important to note that all questions may not be answered within the time frame, but we will touch a handful of crucial ones. Questions are better tailored towards the guest's expertise or presentation shared. However, you may still have relevant questions that are related to technology and pedagogy. It's advisable not to start your tweet With a mention - "@sample"- as this will only be visible to your followers and followers of your mention. You can compose your tweets starting with a character or phrase before the mention is made. Do not forget to ensure the hashtag </span><a href="http://twitter.com/search?q=%23MIEE15Cx&src=typd" target="_blank"><span style="color: blue;">#MIEE15Cx</span></a><span style="color: #222222;"> appears in the body of your tweet. <div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
Nigeria’s success
in an increasingly technology-driven global economy will depend on how we
prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s jobs; and for personal fulfillment
alongside civic engagement in an interconnected world. Digital learning<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><span style="background: white;">ushers
in fundamental structural changes that can be integral to achieving significant
improvements in education. Here, technology is used to support teaching and
learning –blended learning- while infusing classrooms with digital learning
tools, such as computers and hand held devices. It helps to build 21<span style="border: none windowtext 1.0pt; mso-border-alt: none windowtext 0in; padding: 0in;">st</span> century skills; while increasing students’
engagement and motivation.</span> The rise of digital learning presents a
unique opportunity that has unprecedented potential to help achieve ambitious
goals by enabling personalized paths to learning success. This<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><span style="background: white;">technology
also has the power to transform teaching by ushering in a new model of
connected ideas. The model links teachers to their students and further to
professional contents, resources, and systems which help them to improve their
own instruction and personalize learning. This form of education has created a
new façade to help students of the modern age cope with the fast paced and
extensive needs of the real world.</span></div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="background: white;">Let’s take a queue behind Florida; the state boasts of
an overwhelming culture of
reform in education. Bold policies implemented during the last fifteen years reversed a generation of decline in student achievement. She
was once ranked at the bottom of the nation for her quality of education, but Florida
today is now a model in the United States when it
comes to education.Florida leaders continue to build on a strong record of success by challenging the status quo and continually raising the bar for learning. The Sunshine State is implementing world</span><span style="background: white; font-family: "Cambria Math","serif";">‐</span><span style="background: white;">class academic standards that define what students are expected to learn in kindergarten through high school so they enter college ready to learn or start a job ready to work.Providing a customized learning experience for each student is the key to ensuring all students gain the knowledge and skills to succeed in college and challenging 21st century careers. These new expectations for knowledge and skills are more rigorous, more focused and more relevant to the students. Students in Florida, and across the nation, will be measured on their achievement of these new expectations in the
coming years.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="background: white;">Back to Nigeria, our educational system suffers from a
wide range of infrastructural deficits which may be a militating factor for the
successful implementation of digital learning. Unequal access to this
technology is an overriding consideration, while the system lacks adequate
innovative teachers that can transform learning through this platform. Absence
of policy frameworks that will guide the successful implementation is another
factor albeit the existence of a national ICT policy that categorically aligns
the vision 20:2020. We cannot talk of digital learning without putting in place
adequate infrastructures like computers, mobile devices, digital interactive
boards, speedy internet and audio-visual curriculum contents. Epileptic power
supply is another hindrance which may be affecting the realization of the new
learning medium. The challenge of program sustainability; owing to high rate of
obsolete equipments and cost of purchasing new ones may scare the government
from fully engaging this medium – but the gains outweighs the cost.</span></div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="background: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix-ULzZjFp8x6rxliy16f317HzsY4AISRsRGdOYZ9lJamP8WRpme_EecJJYKz3vTyo2gIykEg5Wk7s20grbMY-8xAnCk2onKjdW_tubGOFMnQMK9yGRe_gcBfkmUKt_DHb3Gz8u1kmUP60/s1600/blended+learning.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix-ULzZjFp8x6rxliy16f317HzsY4AISRsRGdOYZ9lJamP8WRpme_EecJJYKz3vTyo2gIykEg5Wk7s20grbMY-8xAnCk2onKjdW_tubGOFMnQMK9yGRe_gcBfkmUKt_DHb3Gz8u1kmUP60/s1600/blended+learning.jpg" height="400" width="397" /></a></div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="background: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; vertical-align: baseline;">
The ongoing trends of the new era revealed the
acceptance of digital learning methods that are flexible; and encouraging a
large mass to participate in such collaborative learning. This was equally
apparent at the just concluded Federal Ministry of Education’s National ICT
week for students and teachers across the unity schools held in Abuja. The
program was co-sponsored by the Microsoft Partners In Learning and the British
Council.<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>The capacity building
project was designed to train over 100 ICT administrators and teachers on how
to explore digital learning, while promoting digital literacy through digital
access.<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>The software giant’s
partnership with the British Council is a blend of ideas from both
organizations to nurture the use of ICT tools for innovative practice in
teaching and learning; in order to equip thousands of students with the
knowledge and skills they need for life and work in the 21st century. Several
teachers across the country joined a contingent of exceptional educators to
learn, share and collaborate on best practices, alongside implementing creative
ideas in the classroom.</div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; vertical-align: baseline;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; vertical-align: baseline;">
During one of the sessions, I was opportune to talk on
how blended learning had improved my classroom atmosphere. I illustrated how I
use audio-visual presentations for giving my students notes instead of the
traditional chalkboard or dictation method. I also elaborated on the concept of
digital story telling: how students learn from short videos and often retain
the message easier. The story of ‘Tobi – one of my students who suffered from
dyslexia was also shared. Here I related how we deployed web 2.0 skills in
helping solve his learning impairment. I equally put some of the teachers
through on how to use the Microsoft Partners in Learning platform for getting
real-time learning resources. It surprised me however that I met one of my
teachers who taught me computer studies back then in high school. She was so
proud of me and other teachers wondered at my prowess in implementing
technology, but concluded that my age -being the youngest at the workshop- was
a factor assisting my development. Instantly, I became a digital learning
consultant and participants started asking for my contact details and scheduled
talk times at tea breaks.</div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; vertical-align: baseline;">
But away from the weeklong event, the nation still
lacks adequate policies that enhance the use of technology for better learning
process. However, the Federal Ministry of Education is striving to recognize<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>the role of ICT in curriculum
implementation as categorically stated by the Nigeria National Policy on
Education (FRN, 2004, p. 53) where it indicates: “the government shall provide
facilities and necessary infrastructures for the promotion of ICT and
e-learning”. There is urgent need to develop policies that validate the use of
ICT as a tool for teaching and learning in all educational institutions and
thus transform the education system by moving from abstract and memory-based
learning to an education that stimulates audio-visual leaning, creative
thinking and practical approaches to problem solving in various areas of human
endeavor. The objective of such policy should include: promoting equitable
access to educational resources through the strategic application of blended
learning, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of educational
administration through the promotion of the use of appropriate school management
information systems and exploiting the interactive potential of digital
learning in the provision of lifelong learning. It will be equally important to
monitor and evaluate the operation of the policy in various schools.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; vertical-align: baseline;">
<u1:p></u1:p>If technology is well harnessed in the
Nigerian education system, we can guarantee ourselves of empowering
students to become life<span style="font-family: "Cambria Math","serif";">‐</span>long learners
through blended learning instructional models,
preparing students for the knowledge economy,
transforming public schools for the digital age via
digital learning requirements for students and creating technology<span style="font-family: "Cambria Math","serif";">‐</span>rich learning experience.
Notwithstanding, teachers’ preparation and professional development in the
digital age will be a huge factor for measuring success. It is not sufficient
to think about technology personalizing learning while envisioning the
traditional classroom. A personalized classroom is in fact a paradigm change in
the concept of school: from teaching to learning. And with this, teaching and
learning will become more interesting.</div>
<div style="background: white; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; vertical-align: baseline;">

While I was a kid, I had always thought culture was all
about the way we dress, the food we eat and the dialect we speak. Not knowing that it transcends beyond those
three lines. I was born in
south-western Nigeria amidst the Yoruba

threat rather than being strength. I have been a victim of religious
chauvinism, ethnic disparity and object of mockery like every other Nigerian
youth. My storyline sounds different because I am an advocate of religious
tolerance, dialogue and peaceful coexistence. These are some aspects of my
culture which I take pride in and have helped in shaping my life for a better

politics have been so alarming in recent times. The most touching part of this
remains the fact that youths form majority of those mobilized to perpetrate
such holocaust. In order to harness my cultural skills in curbing this menace, I
joined hands with Youth Tolerance for Peace Initiative – a vibrant youth organization
led by Jonah Ayo Obajeun; an ambassador of the United Nations Alliance of
Civilization.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

I strongly believe
the best antidote to solving a problem is to treat the root cause. Hence, we
identified that most Nigerian youths lack tolerance, dialogue and patience. We
then designed a structured boot camp program tagged: ‘Tolerance Academy (TA)’ -
to educate, facilitate and participate in the re-structuring program. Our TA
program was equipped with cultural diversity, conflict management, religious
tolerance and intercultural dialogue to enhance interaction and understanding.
We so much built the curriculum to accommodate a culturally sensitive
environment, inviting participants from the majority and minority tribes as
well as religions. </div>

By this means, the youths get to understand each other
better, spending time together, eating from the same plate, wearing traditional
robes and teaching themselves about their cultures. We split them into groups
where they brainstorm, share ideas, discuss and bring forward worthy solutions
to existing problems facing the nation. Today, we have success stories of participants
who have gone back to their localities and institutions establishing Tolerance
Clubs and spreading the gospel of peaceful coexistence.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I see a green Nigeria ahead; the Nigeria of our dreams where
we all truly live by our motto: ‘unity and faith; peace and progress’ not by
ethnicity or religiosity. This is imminent with the uprising of active
volunteer groups taking charge in various aspects, championed by vivacious
youths. My positive attitudes towards cultural awareness have paid me in
several ways. I have had the opportunity to lead student organizations during
my undergraduate days with meaningful projects and long lasting legacies. First
as the President of Nigeria Association of Computer Science Students in my
third year and later as the Amir (Leader) of Muslim Students’ Society of
Nigeria in my final year. These illustrations earned me mentorship to many
students and even after graduation, I am still being invited to present papers
and talks within the university community.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
To wrap up, I recall
with ecstasy my emergence as one of the winners of a national youth essay
competition. In that piece, I pictured the establishment of my culturally
sensitive family where I named my little son with three distinctive names from
the major tribes in Nigeria. That naming ceremony served as a re-orientation
and cultural awareness for many who attended and as such, most people prefer to
call him by the traditional names other than that of my tribe. I strongly believe
that cultural diversity will not only expose us to opportunities for a better
future; it is a must have tool for personal development and inter-cultural
relationship.</div>

Gone are the days of the Sokoto jihad;</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
A noble cause for the liberation of minds.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Indeed a leader was Dan Fodio we heard;</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Who sought salvation by cleansing the lands.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Yet to a greener Nigeria we work and pray.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
The Nigerians we knew at independence were truly of might;</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
They fought for our rights till we got it right.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Only to wake up and see them all dead;</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
From brutality and murder by fellow country men.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Yet to a greener Nigeria we work and pray.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
The military came in with power and might,</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Then built up impunity and corruption to great lofty height.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
We became heedless of ourselves leading to recklessness;</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
And kept suffering and smiling with 'God Dey ' slogans.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Yet to a greener Nigeria we work and pray.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
The colonial masters did us no good by making us unite;</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
For unity in diversity has brought no respite.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
We lost many souls as a result of the civil war;</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Alas! We are losing more from insurgent democratic roars.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Yet to a greener Nigeria we work and pray.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Our religiosity is of no sanctity;</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
With ceremonial mosque goers and looters of tax payers.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
We have little saints and more sinners;</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Who rob Hassan to pay Hussein the tithe.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Yet to a greener Nigeria we work and pray.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
But what comes to live as hope for the ummah;</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
For Allah will not shelve our state until we change ourselves.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
So do not rush to say: Allah is ignoring us;</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
It's we who forgot ourselves and He’s surely calling us.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Yet to a greener Nigeria we work and pray.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
Alas! Our hypocritic prayers may never yield,</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
If we continue to pray without changing ourselves.</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">
The strive for a new Nigeria starts with me and you,</div>
<div style="font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 16px; padding: 0px;">

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 115%;">Nigeria’s
success in an increasingly technology-driven global economy will depend on how
we prepare today’s students for tomorrow’s jobs; and for </span><span style="line-height: 21.466665267944336px;">personal</span><span style="line-height: 115%;"> fulfillment
alongside civic engagement in an interconnected world. Digital learning </span><span style="line-height: 115%;">ushers in fundamental structural changes that can be
integral to achieving significant improvements in education. Here, technology
is used to support teaching and learning –blended learning- while infusing
classrooms with digital learning tools, such as computers and hand held
devices. It helps to build 21<sup><span style="border: none windowtext 1.0pt; mso-border-alt: none windowtext 0in; padding: 0in;">st</span></sup></span><span class="apple-converted-space"><span style="line-height: 115%;"> </span></span><span style="line-height: 115%;">century skills;
while increasing students’ engagement and motivation.</span><span style="line-height: 115%;">
The rise of digital learning presents a unique opportunity that has
unprecedented potential to help achieve ambitious goals by enabling personalized
paths to learning success. This <span style="background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">technology also
has the power to transform teaching by ushering in a new model of connected
ideas. The model links teachers to their students and further to professional
contents, resources, and systems which help them to improve their own
instruction and personalize learning. This form of education has created a new
façade to help students of the modern age cope with the fast paced and
extensive needs of the real world.<o:p></o:p></span></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">Let’s take a queue behind Florida; the state boasts of an overwhelming
culture of reform in education. Bold policies implemented during the last fifteen years reversed a generation of decline in student achievement.
She was once ranked at the bottom of the nation for her quality of education,
but Florida is now a model in the United States
when it comes to education. Today, Florida leaders continue to build on a strong record of success by challenging the status quo and continually raising the bar for learning. The Sunshine State is implementing world‐class academic standards that define what students are expected to learn in kindergarten through high school so they enter college ready to learn or start a job ready to work.Providing a customized learning experience for each student is the key to ensuring all students gain the knowledge and skills to succeed in college and challenging 21st century careers. These new expectations for knowledge and skills are more rigorous, more focused and more relevant to the students. Students in Florida, and across the nation, will be measured on their achievement of these new expectations in the
coming years.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">Back to Nigeria, our educational system suffers from a wide range of
infrastructural deficits which may be a militating factor for the successful
implementation of digital learning. Unequal access to this technology is an
overriding consideration, while the system lacks adequate innovative teachers
that can transform learning through this platform. Absence of policy frameworks
that will guide the successful implementation is another factor albeit the
existence of a national ICT policy that categorically aligns the vision
20:2020. We cannot talk of digital learning without putting in place adequate
infrastructures like computers, mobile devices, digital interactive boards,
speedy internet and audio-visual curriculum contents. Epileptic power supply is
another hindrance which may be affecting the realization of the new learning
medium. The challenge of program sustainability; owing to high rate of obsolete
equipments and cost of purchasing new ones may scare the government from fully
engaging this medium – but the gains outweighs the cost. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; line-height: 115%;">The ongoing trends of the new era revealed the acceptance of digital
learning methods that are flexible; and encouraging a large mass to participate
in such collaborative learning. This was equally apparent at the just concluded
Federal Ministry of Education’s National ICT week for students and teachers
across the unity schools held in Abuja. The program was co-sponsored by the
Microsoft Partners In Learning and the British Council. The capacity building
project was designed to train over 100 ICT administrators and teachers on how
to explore digital learning, while promoting digital literacy through digital
access. </span><span style="line-height: 115%;">The software
giant’s partnership with the British Council is a blend of ideas from both
organizations to nurture the use of ICT tools for innovative practice in
teaching and learning; in order to equip thousands of students with the
knowledge and skills they need for life and work in the 21st century. Several
teachers across the country joined a contingent of exceptional educators to learn,
share and collaborate on best practices, alongside implementing creative ideas
in the classroom.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">During one
of the sessions, I was opportune to talk on how blended learning had improved
my classroom atmosphere. I illustrated how I use audio-visual presentations for
giving my students notes instead of the traditional chalkboard or dictation
method. I also elaborated on the concept of digital story telling: how students
learn from short videos and often retain the message easier. The story of ‘Tobi
– one of my students who suffered from dyslexia was also shared. Here I related
how we deployed web 2.0 skills in helping solve his learning impairment. I
equally put some of the teachers through on how to use the Microsoft Partners
in Learning platform for getting real-time learning resources. It surprised me
however that I met one of my teachers who taught me computer studies back then
in high school. She was so proud of me and other teachers wondered at my
prowess in implementing technology, but concluded that my age -being the
youngest at the workshop- was a factor assisting my development. Instantly, I
became a digital learning consultant and participants started asking for my
contact details and scheduled talk times at tea breaks.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">But away
from the weeklong event, the nation still lacks adequate policies that enhance
the use of technology for better learning process. However, the Federal
Ministry of Education is striving to recognize <span style="background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">the
role of ICT in curriculum implementation as categorically stated by the Nigeria
National Policy on Education (FRN, 2004, p. 53) where it indicates: “the
government shall provide facilities and necessary infrastructures for the
promotion of ICT and e-learning”. There is urgent need to develop policies that
validate the use of ICT as a tool for teaching and learning in all educational
institutions and thus transform the education system by moving from abstract
and memory-based learning to an education that stimulates audio-visual leaning,
creative thinking and practical approaches to problem solving in various areas
of human endeavor.
It will be equally important to
monitor and evaluate the operation of the policy in various schools. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; line-height: 115%;">If technology is well harnessed in the Nigerian education system, we can
guarantee ourselves of empowering students to become life</span><span style="background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; line-height: 115%;">‐</span><span style="background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; line-height: 115%;">long learners through
blended learning instructional models, preparing students for the knowledge economy,
transforming public schools for the digital age

Notwithstanding,
teachers’ preparation and professional development in the digital age will be a
huge factor for measuring success. It is not sufficient to think about
technology personalizing learning while envisioning the traditional classroom.
A personalized classroom is in fact a paradigm change in the concept of school:
from teaching to learning. And with this, teaching and learning will become
more interesting.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

The government recognizes that industrialization is critical to national economic development and have put up policy measures aimed at industrializing the economy - that's the basis of the national industrial revolution plan. The idea is to improve the value chain that will increase value and of course, move up in terms of contribution to the global trade. The industrialization initiative is marked by a big economic boom with an expected increase in per capita income and significant rise in level of productivity. It is equally anticipated that the industrial revolution under the transformation agenda of the Federal Government will transform the socioeconomic sphere rapidly and significantly. As most economic activities in rural communities are agriculture, the implementation of this policy will lead to a paradigm shift from agriculture to manufacture. But without doubt, it must come with significant improvements in transportation, power generation alongside communication. These have been impediments currently showcasing the economy as underperforming; but without doubts, the manufacturing sector still remains the third largest on the continent with export of several goods serving the west African region.</p>
<p dir="ltr">A key step towards industrial revolution is a secured and assured banking system. The Nigerian banking sector has gone through a thorough reformation that saved the system from a verge of collapse. The aftermath of which radiates a vibrant financial system encapsulated with transparency and risk management which is already imparting positively on the financial performance of the banks. Apart from the sharp fall in the ratio of non-performing loans, the robustness of viable banking policies also manifested in profit margins of virtually all the banks. The financial system in Nigeria has grown and is even becoming more inclusive day by day, but it still remains relatively small and undiversified. Encouragingly enough, we have much lower levels of financial depth than high-income countries. Low and middle-income countries are experiencing financial deepening at rates far faster than higher income countries. But financial deepening will be of no benefit if financial services are available to only a few firms or individuals. Access to finance is as pivotal as the depth of the financial system for a successful industrial revolution to transform the country economically. Furthermore, the structural character of Nigeria, policy factors, and exogenous influences vis-a-vis technological availability and sociopolitical conditions are key determinants that may influence the outcome of the industrial revolution plan: either to flourish or stagnate.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Actually, the time may be right for the implementation of the industrial plan owing to the success recorded on the macro economic scale. Nigeria remains a middle income, emerging market and mixed economy with expanding industrial, financial and technological sectors. She is currently ranked 30th in the world with regards to GDP and the second largest economy in Africa, right behind South Africa. However, recent metrics strongly indicates an overthrow to become the largest economy in Africa by 2014 when the new GDP rebasing result is released. For industrialization to thrive, there is need for a stable macro economic environment and Nigeria portents a strong one, despite adverse conditions on the global economy and security threat on the local economy. The tight monetary policy upheld by the Central bank since December 2011 has been reflecting positively both in the improvement of inflation figures and accretion of foreign reserves.  With the foreign reserves put at well over $50 billion and the inflation hovering at 9.1, the economy is obviously experiencing a growth trajectory. In addition, the development of Micro Small and Medium scale Enterprises (MSMEs) hold the keys to structural transformation required to achieve the goal of vision 20:2020 which still stands far from being realistic. However, most of these policies and reforms were successfully implemented under the leadership of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the Governor - Central Bank of Nigeria.</p>
<p dir="ltr">At a point in time when the Nigerian economy was gradually being stabilized, the President of the Federal Republic surprised Nigerians with the draconic suspension of the Governor of Central Bank. We recall with ambiance how Mr. Lamido piloted and championed the cause of maintaining macro economic stability and a sound financial system. The Central Bank under his administration supported appropriate fiscal policy stance with the achievement of desired macro economic objectives within the reach of the Apex Bank's monetary policy. In as much as the industrial plan is right, the suspension at this time may not be in the economic interest of the nation as an unstable macro economic environment will not catalyse output, employment growth nor improve the standard of living of the people. This was apparent in the plummeting of the naira value on the forex market a few hours after the suspension announcement was made. Ironically, it tells how important his role was in stabilizing the money market. History will always remember Sanusi for enhancing the quality of banks, establishing financial stability, enabling healthy financial sector evolution and ensuring that the financial sector contributed to the real economy. However, his fiercely independent view on issues beyond the purview of the central bank, including politics, and whistle blowing has earned him the reputation of an opposition within the government. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Notwithstanding, it is predictable that proper implementation of the industrial revolution plan will strengthen the global economy with gradual acceleration as developing markets gather momentum. This will definitely come with steady risks which might be uneven. We expect growth in the GDP outlook with implementation of critical structural reforms and commitment to fiscal responsibility while hoping that the industrial revolution plan will not become one of the failed economic reform programs. The likes of National Economic Empowerment Development Strategy (NEEDS) and the Structural Adjustment Program (SAP) were similar government initiated policies that failed the test of time. These were dockets designed to improve the standard of living of the people, but actually ended up addressing basic deficiencies and startling corruption. Policies will only remain on paper if we do not have strong institutions and determined personalities who will ensure implementation and proper metrics for evaluation. Only time will tell on the portents of the new industrial policy.</p>

<p dir="ltr">This is my Nigeria; a nation at crossroads, a homeland of paradox with huge potentials yet little to show for it. We are the giant of Africa with a barely noticeable footprint; the heart of Africa that rarely breathes. Our reality often fails to substantiate the claims and impressions we make. Even when we had opportunities, we have rarely taken full advantage of them. These are bitter lines to start with because our sweet song is yet unsung. Nigeria is my country, I am a Nigerian and I am proud of it. I have no other home to go and there is no supplementary country to call my own. This is my Nigeria, for me to defend and uphold with strength.</p>
<p dir="ltr">This is my fatherland - a wonderful place to live, with beautiful sandy beaches, amazing rain forest, warm adaptable climate, richly unique culture and people with bright future. Our national identities are inimitably remarkable; our coat of arm speaks louder than voice. The eagle gives us strength in all we do and that is why Nigerians are creative and successful in all walks of life. The horses tell of our dignity; with due respect and sense of pride. The ‘Y-Icon’ represents the Niger River and Benue River; they are the main inland waterways for power generation, hydration and irrigation. The green and white band on top of the black shield represents the rich agricultural lands of an inspiring country, while the black areas portray our fertile plots for cultivation to feed the nation. The green flora at the base illumines the stunning countryside. This is my Nigeria, for me to defend and uphold with strength.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Not only am I proud of my country, but I am grateful to God for being a part of over one hundred and sixty million people representing the most populous black nation on earth. Nigeria has existed for almost a hundred years and has been independent for over fifty years, but to what avails has this to a nation enormously blessed with mineral, natural and human resources.We were once known as an agricultural economy, but now solely depend on production of crude oil. While oil wealth has financed most investments and infrastructures, we still remain among the poorest in terms of per capital income and import more farm produce to feed our people. Yet, we are still one of the fastest growing economies. This is my Nigeria, for me to defend and uphold with strength.</p>
<p dir="ltr">If you care to experience rich diverse cultures and colorful festivals, then visit my motherland where we have over two hundred and fifty ethnic groups; with Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba as major tribes. These groups give the country a rich culture, but they also pose major challenges to nation building. We are a people who give importance to religious activities; yet we have little saints and more sinners. With our diversity, we need enough forbearance and care to eschew ethno-religious chauvinism. We were once forced to fight a civil war with no victor, no vanquish. We cannot afford to fight another; the bitter memories still linger. This is my Nigeria, for me to defend and uphold with strength.</p>
<p dir="ltr">My Nigeria is blessed and rich, but the riches are in the hands of a few and the masses are wallowing in penury. We are consecrated with the Nigerian youths; the ones with determination and aspiration for a better Nigeria. Who battles for survival by hammering through the hard economic situations and manages to create a niche via creativity cum innovation. No wonder many of them become less patriotic; hitherto we still have great minds home and abroad, doing us proud in academics, sport, literature and social entrepreneurship. We are the soldiers of hope for a greener Nigeria, yet some are gone in search of greener prairies. We see ourselves like brothers from another mother - that strengthens our love and bond for one Nigeria. This is my Nigeria, for me to defend and uphold with strength.</p>
<p dir="ltr">I have a dream for Nigeria! A representation of the future of my country, the Nigeria I seek is the one I speak: where we have uninterrupted power supply with decline to utterance of ‘UP NEPA’ and availability of pipe borne water, flowing in every scullery and lavatory. I see a Nigeria with superb educational system, producing highly competitive graduates with world-class standards and strike free sessions. The Nigeria in view is one which truly radiates: Unity and faith; peace and progress – until then will our motto renew. An abode of comfort and stability, open to investors and tourist from around the world. A true giant of Africa aroused from slumber to become Africa’s greatest economy. This is my Nigeria, for me to defend and uphold with strength.</p>
<p dir="ltr">My dream goes beyond a big picture and it is not a flying horse that takes us to the next terminus. I -as an individual- am strong and powerful, but we as Nigerians are united and stronger. Therefore, we must focus on what we can do for the change we seek. Implementing a zero tolerance for corruption at all levels is the first step towards actualizing this dream; while re-orientation on entrenching strong positive values will keep this real. The time is over for blaming our leaders; but the time is right to determine bold, accountable and visionary leadership. Henceforth, we must see ourselves as Nigerians before our tribes. Achieving this agenda will help create a secure and friendly environment, while building a nation where peace and justice shall reign. This is my Nigeria, for me to defend and uphold with strength.</p>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> In
1600, right at the heart of the desert, one message woke a slumbering and
snoring nation. It propelled its dwellers to ascendancy, prominence, dominance,
fame, unimaginable wealth, bravery, valour and they remain there, at the zenith,
ever since. This is the Arab nation and the message was Islam. No other
movement has recorded such rapid transformation on people so immersed in
disruptive activities such that every facet of their lives was transformed and
they rose to occupy a permanent place in the development of the world
civilization. Men of great intellect were produced along with unrivalled and unparalleled
achievements with cooperation among people of diverse background and race.
Though historians have not been fair in portrayal of Islam, the stupendous and
tremendous possibilities offered by Islam to any civilization where its
principles, idea and methodology are applied are clear to all discerning minds.
<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Indeed, Nigeria is in the same
political and military quagmire Arab nation found itself in Pre-Islamic era. Our
country is bedeviled by longstanding and seemingly irreconcilable differences
splitting it along ethnic and religious fault lines and plaguing the nation,
preventing any meaningful development. Even, the highly educated individuals
are not immune to this syndrome as reflected in the memoirs of Prof. Chinua
Achebe titled ‘There Was A Country’ and the comments it generated both within
and outside the country, a testament to the persisting ethnic divide. Our
country is beset with myriad of problems ranging from corruption,
improprieties, political thuggery, cronyism, nepotism, insecurity, unemployment,
selfishness, indeed the list is endless. Everywhere we turn, there is chaos. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">We desperately need a uniting
force and Islam has a proven track record. Applied correctly, Islam has the
ability to unite various tribes together just as it did to those earlier
generation who applied its principles. The one who look to history will see the
immense prospects Islam harbor and offered the world and civilizations that
arose in nations conquered by Islam during its spread. Comprehensive financial structure in the form
of Islamic banking is an ideal solution to our fragile finance system where
public holders use every loophole in the book to enrich themselves, The long
held view that Islam opposes western education is a propaganda because right at
the heart of Islamic rise is an unmatched thirst for knowledge though the moral
decadence prevailing in the west should be separated from the knowledge that
abound there just as chaff should be separated from the wheat.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span class="apple-converted-space"><span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> </span></span><span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Nigerian Supreme
Council for Islamic Affairs</span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">, NSCIA, has a major role to play in Nigeria landscape
being the apex and coordinating body for the Muslims. The effort ought to start
from the member constituents as various post should be filled with resourceful
and dynamic individuals with proven track record and ability to transform the
organization and put it in its rightful place. In this regard, the recent appointment
of new members to fill the various vacant positions in the council among them,
the appointment of Professor Ishaq Olanrewaju Oloyede as the secretary general,
is a step in the right direction. The Professor is well known throughout the
country and beyond its borders especially for his unprecedented transformation
at the helm of affairs in University of Ilorin bringing the institution to the
forefront of academic excellence and making it a pace setter. No doubt such
individuals are highly needed considering how the late Dr. Adegbite (May Allah
forgive him his sins and grant him paradise) brought the organization to the
fore with his dynamic approach and bridge building attitude. Surely such
conciliatory attitude is needed as the whole nation cannot practice Islam and
leaving in harmony with non Muslims is of paramount importance and part of
sincere Dawaah (Calling to Islam). <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> Similarly,
the unity of all Muslims in the country is of paramount importance if any
meaningful achievement is to be accomplished. Regardless of affiliations and
regions, whether northern, southern or eastern Muslims whatever the appellation,
the body must strive to bring together people from all walks of life and
various organizations. The verse (<span style="background: white;">interpretation

<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">clearly instruct the Muslims to unite.
The body must actively encourage unity among Muslims of all tribes, factions
and ease their coming and working together towards achieving a united front
while at the same time discouraging anything that will create enmity,
differences, dispute ,discord, and division as this will only bring about the
downfall of the Ummah (Muslims) and seriously undermine the true message of
Islam. In the same vein, resources from
various quarters must be fully utilized and membership not restricted to those
who are only well versed in the jurisprudence of the Deen (Islam).</span></blockquote>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">

<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">We have Muslim associations from
among the lawyers, medical personnel, engineers, entrepreneurs, market women
and leading voices in the society. These people should be reached out to so
that ours can be an all encompassing community. Indeed, services from various
quarters will be required from time to time owing to various challenges the Ummah
is facing. A good example is the Hijab ban and cremation issues in Lagos state,
which could do with the assistance of Muslim lawyers. They will bring to the
table not only their expertise but their convictions as well.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Furthermore,
NSCIA must build for itself a powerful media outlet as media have become a
major player in the present world order. They shaped the opinion of the public
and sway allegiance with thought provoking presentation and analysis. However,
Muslims in Nigeria and indeed all over the world have been on the receiving end
as they are portrayed in negative light turning them into barbaric and outdated
set of people. The recent events in Egypt highlight this important fact and the
Aljazeera role more than point to the urgent need for a powerful media outlet. </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">PeaceTV of Dr Zaik Naik and Islam
Channel in UK have all achieved tremendous success and proven a hit with
Muslims, we should not be left behind. Major Sections of Nigerian dailies have
made it their mandate to revile and attack anything and everything associated
with Islam and Muslims whether blatantly or subtly. We read stories of Boko
Haram escapades daily and the manner in which the public are been led to the
conclusion that this group is actualizing the ideas and values of Islam. There
are many young Muslims ready to take their pen and refute this allegation but
no outlet to air their opinion hence we are confined to social media and most
often this does not reach the wider public. We need the media to correct the
violent picture painted of us, to air and promote our values freely, to engage
and discuss with other people of diverse opinions as is being done presently
all over the world and most importantly, to contribute to policy making in
Nigeria and weigh in on current issues as they occur. NSCIA, currently, have no
presence on social media, not even a website of his own. This must be
rectified.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Another
issue of paramount importance is fund generation. The body cannot depend on the
well wishers for free donation as this will not suffice. Businesses that can
generate fund can be built with the assistance of the technocrats. This will
not only generate much needed cash but provide employment for the youths of the
Ummah. </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: 0.5in;">Having
laid down all the aforementioned points, then the body can settle down to
achieve its major objective which is overseeing and monitoring the affairs of
the Muslims, improving their conditions as regards religion, health, education,
welfare as well as their basic and fundamental rights. They must contribute to
burning issues in the country especially the policy-defining ones bringing to
the table the Islamic perspectives. The
Ummah must be sensitized as to the dictate of their Deen and to achieve this,
various Islamic organizations at the grassroots must be incorporated into this
activity. It is in this regard that I commend the effort of TMC as they have
shown through their various activities that their organization is ready to move
and dance to the dictate of time while still holding on to the fundamental
teachings of Islam. Indeed, they are an example to follow. Our brethren are
suffering much persecution all over the country, Muslims are discriminated
against. In schools, government parastatals, private organizations, we are
having our fundamental rights to worship freely trampled and marched upon and
employments are scarce to come by.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%; text-indent: 0.5in;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">We need Muslim hospital where our
women dignity will be safeguarded and conversion from Islam will not be a
condition for treatment. At a time when private universities are sprouting up
everywhere in the country, we are yet to boast of a fully functional one.
Despite all the lures of Islamic
banking it refutes to take off properly years after its inception and we
continue to operate the riba-based banking system. There are opportunities
outside the shores of the country in terms of scholarship yet our people are
not informed while some lack the meager fees required for the processing. We
need welfare for this and many others.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Quite simply, NSCIA must make
itself a force the populace cannot afford to ignore and only then can Islam be
restored to its proper place in our society and true changes can be made.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0.5in;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt;">Finally,
in achieving all of the above, the body must not forget the tenets on which it
was built and that is Islam. Their activities must be guarded at all times by
Islamic principles and precepts and they must not jettison the value we cherish
so much in favour of civilization. Indeed the Prophet (Peace be upon him) has
warned us saying </span><span style="background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: #1f497d; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt;">“Hold firmly to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly-Guided
Caliphs after me…”</span><span style="background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt;"> And </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt;">as the famous Scholar, Imaam Maalik, said “</span><span style="color: #1f497d; font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-bidi; mso-bidi-theme-font: major-bidi; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-font-kerning: 18.0pt; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-bidi; mso-themecolor: text2;">The latter part of this Ummah will not be corrected except by that
which corrected its first part”.</span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt;"> <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt;">It is in this regard that I
welcome the manner in which the new NSCIA members were nominated through the Shura
committee as this is a step in the right direction though the body must also be
very careful of rigid interpretation and implementation of texts and should
take into consideration rapid development and advancement the society is
witnessing on daily basis. Hence, matters should be treated with much
flexibility especially as the world is moving with such speed and Muslims are
been left in wake of this development due to this rigid stance.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Of
course, changes take time and Rome was not built in a day but as the opening
verse stated if only we believe. </span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ascii-theme-font: major-bidi; mso-bidi-theme-font: major-bidi; mso-hansi-theme-font: major-bidi;"> Sheikh Ibn Taimiyyah said: <span style="color: #1f497d; mso-themecolor: text2;">“Those who are in authority are of
two groups: the scholars and the rulers. If they are upright, the people will
be upright; if they are corrupt, the people will be corrupt”</span> and history has shown the great importance
of leadership as several civilizations have risen and prospers under vibrant stewardship.
Hence, the presence of visionary leaders at the helms of affair is a good
start. Nigerian Muslims need a courageous and focused leadership to steer it
away from its present wilderness and herald it into prosperity, excellence and
dominance. We can only hope and pray these gaping needs are fulfilled under the
aegis of NSCIA.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-indent: .5in; text-justify: kashida; text-kashida: 0%;">

<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> <span style="background: white;">I beseech Allaah, the Exalted, the Almighty, to assist
NSCIA and all Islamic organizations in achieving victory and that He rectify
the affairs and conditions of Muslims all over the world for indeed He is a
Patron to that. Praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds.</span></span><br />

Tolerance Academy is a trademark of Youth Tolerance for Peace Development Initiative, incubating young people around the country for peace development via leadership engagement through dialogue, religious tolerance and cultural integration. It is a mobile peace-building Academy driving intra and inter-ethnic integration among young people. It also fosters cross-cultural relations and ethno-religious integration. Tolerance Academy has been implemented across cities in Nigeria.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px none; color: #333333; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; list-style: none; outline: none; padding: 0px 0px 1em;">
In partnership with Youth Development Centre under the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, Osun State and the United Nations Alliance of Civilisation, the project curates the third season in January/February, 2014.</div>

In this season, 40 young leaders from across the 36 States of the country will take part in the full week residency incubation period in a resort, where participants will be taken through engaging situational analysis via classroom dialogue, field demonstration and video modeling, with outcomes becoming current best approaches in peace-building models which will be shared widely with local and global partners.</div>

competitions in the last couple of months. Can you give us an insight into
these?<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">Well,
first I thank Allah for helping me win because I am not a good writer as people
perceive. Equally, I thank Him for blessing us with OxygenMAT as a tutor cum
mentor. His blog #NWC was the tool that performed all the winning stunts. The
three entries were not written to the best of my taste and I submitted all on
deadline dates. So whenever I am announced as a winner, I view it as share luck
and fate. However, winning three essay contests in three months successively is
the best hat-trick I have ever scored. But in your words, it’s not beans…<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">How would you compare the
opportunities you have now to enter writing competitions to your undergraduate
days?<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">Sincerely,
they are incomparable. I never knew NWC while in undergrad so I missed that out.
I get to see opportunities on daily basis via the newsletter, but my
ineligibility makes me unfit to put up entries most times. An instance is that
of CIPM 2013 with attractive prizes. On the other hand, I now have time to
focus and carry out research better as a graduate; hence I utilize every
opportunity to craft killer essays that suit my interest in order not to miss
out again.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">In your award-winning entry for the
Yakubu Gowon Foundation 2012 Essay Competition, you related how you christened
your child with names from the three major Nigerian tribes? Can you shed more
light on that?<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">Smiles!
Everyone who read that piece always admired that brief pithy utterance
‘Ubaydullah Danjuma ChukwuNonso Ayomide’. Sincerely, the truth about it is just
cultural integration. The fact is, Nigerians have allowed themselves to be
continuously disdained with ethno-religious chauvinism which I fail to
subscribe to. And besides, that phrase equally served as a joker for the examiners
of that contest and I took it as a point of interest to always have something
interesting to envelope my audience while writing.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">What keeps you motivated and
writing? – the passion to write or the
cool prizes?<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">Frankly
speaking, it’s the passion. I love to read, draw and write from time immemorial.
I don’t enter contests when I am short of ideas and convincing words to put up
a quality entry. Everybody likes winning, no one loves to fail. Notwithstanding,
attractive prizes may be a cool motivator at times.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">What do you know of or think of <i>Naija Writers’ Coach</i>?<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">Let
me make you smile a bit… ‘<i>I cannot
categorically tell you one now because he is my OGA when it comes to writing</i>.’
But to be very realistic, the first day I saw his blog and his winning entries,
I told myself: If Abdullah can do it, then I can. That was the psyche and ever
after, everyone saw me as an award winning essayist requesting for mentorship
and tutorial. In a nutshell, he is my brother, friend, mentor and coach – for
real.<span style="border: 1pt none windowtext; padding: 0in;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">Have you any parting words for us?<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">Definitely!
Just like in your story I got inspired. I feel young writers need to harness
this platform to educate, participate and then celebrate. All the entries I won
and tips in winning were gotten right here on #NWC. Hence, aspiring scribblers,
should share the vision - if I can make it, then you too can do better.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 200%; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 200%;">Thanks for your time Mr.

This leads me to the </span><span class="text_exposed_show" style="background-color: white; color: #37404e; display: inline; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">conclusion that “ leadership is not wrought to be worn by men, it is like a birth blood born with men, but it only manifests in the first day a toddler has to make a decision and ever after. Abdukabeer was born a leader and I am happy he is my brother. There are some things we both have to agree on. I don’t like it when he talks about diversity. I think he should learn to be a realist. That is the reason for my rejoinder. </span><br />

<a name='more'></a><br />Islamic Scholars as we know them, in the heart of the night burn the candles to revive knowledge required for social engineering and revitalisation. One of the products of their efforts is the admonition drawn from various evidences of the Quran and Sunnah of our dear prophet Muhammad, is that as Muslims, it is beneficial for us to pray for Tranquillity; for us to pray for the tranquillity of our social systems. The reality of the society is that without peace in all facets of our social systems, development and harmony will be like a ripe but still hanging fruit, gyrating in the air, and when it overstays its hanging period, it gets rotten and drops dead. All yearnings for development will have to wait till another season of abundance.<br />
<span class="text_exposed_show" style="background-color: white; color: #37404e; display: inline; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;"><br />Peace and tranquillity is very important in the society to the extent that without it being given precedence over all things, it clogs the wheel of progress. One notable similarity between third world countries is that violence is a tool they want to use to achieve peace and tranquillity. The last generation of people who used such weapon were given the news of peace in their graves. One who should be credited with the first singular act of civilisation is he who said, “let us dialogue, instead of smashing our heads with clubs”. </span><br />
<span class="text_exposed_show" style="background-color: white; color: #37404e; display: inline; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;"><br />The importance of the family unit in the life of a nation cannot be less emphasised. My position is that if the family is at peace within itself, she will be at peace with other families and the nation would reap a bountiful harvest of happiness year in, year out. But, how does the family become at peace within itself? How do we prevent the frustration of a father turned into aggression towards the wife which in turn gets transferred to the offspring, which becomes one of the many ills the nation has to battle with. How do we explain the many miscreants we have in the streets of Nigeria, trying to survive by any means available? They have become so innovative in surviving illegally and by crooked means. What is responsible for the failure of the noble almajiri system in the northern Nigeria? A system is said to be noble if at the onset, it sets out to achieve noble missions. And what is nobler than trying to achieve mass literacy and education. At the scenes of accidents, where every sane human should know that rescue efforts should be launched with so much alacrity in order to rescue dying souls, Nigerian lads would be stealing from the dead and dying souls. They would be hunting for bags containing money and foods as if it were during war where you have no sympathy for your enemies and you scramble for the booty. The last accident turned explosion spree along Lagos/Ibadan expressway and the Dana airline crash in Iju/ishaga, Lagos presents itself as evidence. Nigerian lads and adults are fast becoming a unique type of individual never seen on the face of the earth. And this fusion of more than 500 tribes and languages is not happening fast as we would have wished, although it has achieved a not too much over zero percent. So when the children have become something else, not understanding and appreciating the value of human dignity, and their fathers have become people with no dignity who commit every crime possible, and still pretend as if they are saints just being ordained by the papal, having a permanent seat in the mosque and church because of the money they have reaped from corruption by short-changing the country, where their mothers have become harlots, then we realize that the family unit is broken which in turn breaks the fabric of nationhood. </span><br />

Since independence, it has been from one happenstance to the other; from bloodless coup d’état to bloody ones, from civil war to high scaled social disorder; from the loss of social properties to the loss of human capital. Nigeria is a failed state and immediately needs help. Nigeria is bedridden with many ailments and constantly needs attention. From history we learnt that when the source of a problem is known, then we are half way to the solution. The Iranians realized that the oppressive shah regime is one of the sources of their problems as at that time. They mobilized a revolution to send this brutal and western puppet dominated regime packing. Looking at the Iranians through the eyes of the pristine Islam, their problem might not really be oppressive governments and the solution might not be a revolution. Their problem is deviation and party spirit. One can only come to Allah through what he has prescribed as a ladder. Why do you need to create a variation when you have a perfect system which never fails? In this perfect system, a revolution is of no need, it only increases the problems. This systems is for he only who listens and obey Allah, his prophet referring every differences to Allah and his prophet, killing his desires himself, learning from the interpretations of the rightly guided caliphs and all those who were blessed with the seeing and learning from the prophet. That is sure success. So it is important to be sure of the sources of problems before an action.<br />Many people have postulated about the problems of Nigeria and many people still do today. But are we sure about these postulates? Or else, we will never be free of these challenges we face.<br />The history of Nigeria from the very first stage of creation to naming before, the activities of cost and revenue started surprises me all the time I have a time to ponder over it. So in the height of my astonishment, I would always look at other nations and their peculiarity, trying to see how much they look like Nigeria, but the answers I get, have always been unsatisfying. I realized that nations have peculiarities. They don’t just bear nations. The people of a nation are bound together by a stronger bond of similarities; such as language, colour and anatomical similarities. It does not take rocket science to recognize a Jap or a Briton. So who is a Nigerian? Is it the tribal marked cheek guy from Ibadan who was born into the Yoruba soil, bred and trained in the Yoruba manners and folklore who can only dance to the sound of the talking drum and Bata, or the yellow guy with a flat head and sometimes with a double stroke mark right beside his eye socket who hails from umuhaia who was trained from birth about the Igbo race and their superiority over all other races and how God choose them to lead the other African races and who was taught that “money is money, regardless of where it comes from” or the fair complexioned, athletic Fulani who speaks Fulfulde fluently, who believes so much in nomadic lifestyle and the sacredness of the cattle, whose disposition to superiority of race is only neutralized by Islam. Islam says all races are equal, black, white and the yellow races. Who is a Nigerian? Nigeria is a fraud, and its high time Africans rise to the challenge of the nation-state systems imposed on them by the British imperialism. From the very time I got the picture of Nigerian as a perfect example of a nation set on a tripod of injustice, as an experiment ventured into for the sake of getting a promotion from her majesty the queen, I lost identity as a Nigerian.</span><br />
<span class="text_exposed_show" style="background-color: white; color: #37404e; display: inline; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;"><br />From history, we learnt that Lugard, not a lord, amalgamated Nigeria because of easy administration of the protectorates. There is nothing wrong with bringing two people of different strengths together in order to collaborate on their strength in order to perform exceptionally. But this association must be willfully consented, to by the party concerned. This was what happened in the American colonies. They willfully came together to fight British imperialism that was eating so deep into their fabrics of survival. Anywhere the British touched, they leave landmarks of sorrow and inferiority complex. Where is such evidence to the accession by our ancestors of Nigeria? Where was such meeting where our ancestors discussed the state of the union? Where they named the new entity or where they chatted a way to peacefully live with each other considering their obvious differences. This is one of the very many reasons why Nigeria is considered as a fraud. The questions of the African holocaust were never asked, thanks to Achebe who has spent a fortune of his life refuting the western claims that African has no culture nor tradition. I have often posited that it is not enough to start criticizing the many loopholes of the system without criticizing the decision to build a road where there is no link between societies. And Allah almighty has divided us all himself by differences. But the greed of humans is trying to call us one when we have not sworn to common ideals willfully. </span><br />
<span class="text_exposed_show" style="background-color: white; color: #37404e; display: inline; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span>
<span class="text_exposed_show" style="background-color: white; color: #37404e; display: inline; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px;">This road will be ridden with many potholes and nobody will be attendant because there is no link. And what gives me a lot of nausea is the continuous praise of the Nigerian project by her designers. What do I even expect? Do I expect them to criticize what they deliberately designed to be a source of honey bank that would quench their thirst, even if not all the time? Nigeria is a honey comb where they all gather to harvest where they do not sow. so for peace to reign in Nigeria; we have to first understand that Nigeria is an injustice. The northern, western and eastern section of the country not blessed with the black gold has to realize that they don’t have a share in the oil revenue coming out of the Niger delta, so meaning that if Nigeria is still to stay together, the centre must be made weak. We must strive towards true federalism. Regionalism will bring about a healthy competition among nations “regions”. Most of the infrastructures presently in the western section of the country today were constructed from the revenue from cocoa. Moreover our situation will not change if we do not change ourselves. We need a change from the individual to the family unit and hence to the nation. So to the “mumus” celebrating the centenary I say happy celebration of ignorance and stupidity.<br /><br />Yusuff `sola Omoloja.</span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15264303163435422750noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5441343093001045614.post-79986598493247682582013-06-23T15:44:00.002-07:002013-06-23T15:44:37.236-07:00Etisalat Geek Contest 2013 - My Entry<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
